The exercises in this section target the core, an important area for strength, fitness and stability. Do not confuse the term “trunk stability” with trunk strength. Few people really need strong core muscles – stamina, tone and the ability to maintain a stable posture while performing other activities are the most important.

All exercises benefit from core stability and high resistance from the lower back. Together they protect against low back pain – one of the most common complaints in Western society. For athletes, core stability means a good foundation to be able to throw further and more powerfully, to better process body contact and to stay in balance.

Only with the right technique are the core exercises safe and effective. Keep the spine in a neutral position and minimize the use of secondary muscles.
